FAQ

Everything You Want to Know About STUFF

How much does junk removal cost in your area?

Pricing is volume-based — you pay for the space your stuff takes up in our truck, not by item or by weight. We tell you the exact, final price before we touch a single thing. No estimates, no surprises, no hidden fees. The visit itself is free and there's no obligation — if the price doesn't work for you, we leave and you owe nothing.

Do you offer same-day junk removal in your area?

Often yes. We can frequently get to your area homes the same day you call, and we usually have a window available within 24 to 48 hours. Call 805-427-8833 in the morning and there's a good chance we can be at your place that afternoon. The earlier you call, the better the odds — our same-day slots fill up fast.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash, check, all major credit and debit cards, Venmo, and Zelle. There's no deposit required to book and no payment due until the job is finished — you pay only after the work is done and everything's hauled away.

Do you take appliances, mattresses, hot tubs, and other big items?

Almost always yes. We haul appliances (including refrigerators and freezers), mattresses and box springs, hot tubs, pianos, pool tables, treadmills, e-waste, construction debris, yard waste, full garage cleanouts, and entire estate contents — basically anything that isn't actively dangerous. The short list of what we can't take: commercial-scale volumes of liquids, industrial chemicals, and asbestos. If you're not sure, just call 805-427-8833. We've seen it all.

Is STUFF Junk Removal insured?

Yes. STUFF carries general liability, commercial auto, and workers' compensation insurance — full coverage that protects you, your property, and our crew while we're on your job. We're happy to provide a certificate of insurance on request. Cheap, uninsured junk haulers exist, and hiring one is one of the most expensive mistakes a homeowner can make. We are the safest.

Where does all the stuff actually go?

We sort everything that comes off the truck. Reusable items go to local charities and resellers when they'll take them. Metal, e-waste, and recyclables go to the right facilities. What's left ends up at the dump — disposed of legally. We do our best to keep stuff out of landfills, but we're not going to pretend everything has a second life. Most junk is junk.

Do I need to be home when you come?

It's helpful, but not required. If you can be there to point at what's going, we walk through with you, give you the exact price, and get to work. Plenty of our customers aren't on site though — property managers prepping a turnover, real estate agents getting a listing ready, families clearing out a relative's home from across the country. We work it out over the phone with photos and clear instructions, and you can pay remotely once the job is done.

Who actually owns and runs STUFF Junk Removal?

STUFF is owned and operated by Scott Patterson, founded in Agoura Hills in 2021. We're a small, local, family-run operation — a tight crew that Scott trained personally, and over 3,000 completed hauls across LA and Ventura counties. We're not a franchise, not a lead-gen middleman, and not a national chain pretending to be local.

How far in advance do I need to book?

Most jobs can be booked same-day or within 24 to 48 hours. For larger jobs — full estate cleanouts, multi-truck loads, hoarder situations — we recommend booking a few days out so we can block the right amount of time and crew. End-of-month moves fill up first, so the further ahead you call, the better your options.

Do you do estate cleanouts and hoarder situations?

Yes — these are some of our most common jobs. We help families clear out homes after a loss, prepare inherited properties for sale, and work through serious hoarder situations with care, zero judgment, and total discretion. These jobs are rarely just about the junk. There's often grief, family stress, embarrassment, or relief all in the same room. We're not a smash-and-grab crew. We read the room, move at the pace the family needs, and treat what's left behind with the weight it deserves. Whatever you're walking into, we've probably seen something like it before, and we're not going to make it harder on you.

What's the difference between STUFF and a national franchise junk hauler?

When you call STUFF, you talk to the people who will actually be on the job — no call center, no national dispatch, no franchisee in another city forwarding the call. Scott Patterson founded STUFF in 2021, trained the crew personally, and runs the business. The same person you speak to on the phone is the person who shows up in the truck. That's the real difference between a local, owner-operated junk hauler and a national chain.

Do you do commercial junk removal?

Yes — and at scale. We work with property managers, real estate agents, retail stores, restaurants, contractors, offices, and HOAs across LA and Ventura counties. We've cleared 50,000 square foot warehouses, 20,000 square foot office buildings full of cubicles and office furniture, warehouse racking, and just about every other commercial cleanout you can imagine. Because STUFF is locally owned and not a franchise, we can custom-tailor the service to whatever the job actually needs — specialized equipment, after-hours work, tenant move-out coordination, multi-day schedules. Call 805-427-8833 to walk through scope and pricing.

How big are your trucks and how much do they hold?

Our trucks are 18 cubic yards on paper, but in practice we fit closer to 22 cubic yards in each one because we load above the walls. That's roughly 7 pickup-truck loads per truck — a full STUFF truck handles a lot more than most people expect. For bigger jobs we send multiple trucks the same day.

Do you take refrigerators, freezers, and AC units with freon?

Yes. We handle freon-containing appliances correctly, including proper drainage and disposal through licensed facilities. There may be a small additional fee depending on the unit — we'll let you know upfront before doing the work, never after.

What areas do you serve?

We serve all of Ventura County and most of western Los Angeles County — from Camarillo and Thousand Oaks through Calabasas, Woodland Hills, Encino, and the surrounding communities. We travel further than people expect, so call 805-427-8833 if you're not sure. And if your address is outside our service area, we likely have a reputable partner hauler we can connect you with so you still get great service.

Still have questions? Call or text 805-427-8833 — a real human (probably Scott) will pick up.
